The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, received, on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in Rabat, Mr. Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President of the European Union Commission in charge of the Green Deal, who is visiting Rabat on October 18 and 19 to sign the Green Partnership between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco on Energy, Climate, and Environment.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on the strengthening of the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union, to which His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, attaches particular importance.
The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, said that the activation of the green partnership between Morocco and the European Union will make it possible to exploit all the opportunities it offers in terms of energy security, green hydrogen, interconnection, and the gas pipeline linking Europe, Morocco, and Nigeria, noting the importance of this partnership in advancing their energy transition, preserving the environment and stimulating the green economy.
It is worth mentioning that this meeting falls within the framework of the Green Partnership, which is the first of its kind between the European Union and a partner country, as it contributed to giving positive dynamism to bilateral relations and withstanding the challenges imposed by the difficult international situation. The two sides have already announced their intention to establish this partnership in June 2021 to strengthen their cooperation in combating climate change.
