The Head of Government Represents His Majesty the King at Jerusalem Support Conference in Cairo
The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee, at the Jerusalem Support Conference, which began on Sunday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The Moroccan delegation to this high-level event includes, in particular, the Director in charge of the management of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, Mohamed Salem Echarkaoui, El Hassan El Asri, Director of Legal Affairs and Treaties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, and Ahmed Tazi, the Kingdom's Ambassador in Cairo and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States.
The conference will witness a balanced Arab and Islamic presence, as it will be attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, King Abdullah II of Jordan and Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit, as well as high-level representatives of regional, Arab and international organizations including the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, the European Union, the African Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The conference discusses political developments in Palestine in addition to the legal and investment development dimensions through three main axes, the first sheds light on the political reality in the city of Jerusalem and the grave violations committed by the Israeli occupation government such as land confiscation, settlement construction, home demolitions, forced displacement of citizens from their homes, attempts to change the legal and historical status quo in Al-Aqsa Mosque, in addition to crimes committed in the field of human rights.
The second axis is related to the economic aspect and aims to identify development priorities and investment potential in the city of Jerusalem, especially in the main priority sectors, namely housing, education, health, tourism, culture, women, and youth.
As for the third axis, they include the legal aspect, where Jerusalemites face many racist Israeli laws and procedures, which primarily seek to tighten the noose on them and are considered one of the factors repelling the displacement of Jerusalemites from their city and emptying the holy city of its Palestinian component.
This theme includes discussing ways to address attempts to change the historical status quo in Al-Aqsa Mosque and holy sites in Jerusalem, settlement projects, forced displacement, house demolitions, targeting Arab education curricula in Jerusalem, and the issue of prisoners.
It is expected that the conference will culminate in a political statement that includes practical political commitments to strengthen the steadfastness of Jerusalemites so that the outcomes and recommendations of the conference are ready before the next Arab summit in Saudi Arabia.
