The Head of Government visits Ouarzazate province to inspect social and economic projects and sign agreements with a development dimension

The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, was accompanied on Friday by the Minister of Equipment and Water, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, and the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, and in the presence of the Wali of the Draa-Tafilalet Region and the President of the Council of the Region, inspected a number of social and economic projects and signed agreements with a development dimension in the province of Ouarzazate, continuing his field visit to the Draa. Tafilalet, in the context of keeping pace with the development efforts in the region, in line with the will of His Majesty the King, may God assist him.
Within the framework of the great attention paid by the government to the health sector, through radically reforming the national health system and increasing the proximity services provided to citizens, in order to keep pace with the success of the workshops to extend health coverage to all Moroccans, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch visited the Sidi Hassine Regional Hospital Center in Ouarzazate, which benefited from expansion and rehabilitation works worth about 123 million dirhams, including in particular the opening of a new operating room and recovery service. After that, he agreed to present the project of establishing a multidisciplinary hospital in the territory.
In front of the Head of Government, agreements related to the program for the development of mountain and oasis tourism in the province of Ouarzazate, for which 283 million dirhams have been allocated, were presented. The projects of the emergency program 2023-2024 for the development of mountain and oasis tourism in the province of Ouarzazate, amounting to 102 million dirhams, were presented, and these projects concern the rehabilitation of world-renowned tourist sites (the first part), the preparation of panoramic stations in oases, the valorization of palaces, kasbahs and cinematic orbit, and the creation of spaces for the valorization of meteorites and dinosaurs.
With the completion of these projects, the Supplementary Program 2025-2027 projects will be launched, with an estimated value of 181 million MAD. It is related to the rehabilitation of world-renowned tourist sites (second part), the creation of sports tourism orbits in oases, the valorization of handicrafts and the orbit of geological and mineral tourism.
In the presence of Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, programs related to the revitalization of tourism offers in Ouarzazate, the promotion and valorization of tourism in the Kasbah of Taourirt, support for the traditional carpet industry in Taznakht, as well as the city's program for the film industry were presented.
In accordance with the High Royal Directives, the Head of Government oversaw the signing of agreements for the implementation of projects in the field of higher education and innovation, including a partnership agreement for the implementation of the project related to the development of the university pole in the city of Ouarzazate. This project falls within the framework of improving the level of higher education in the region and improving access indicators to university institutions.
A partnership agreement was also signed on the implementation of the project related to the development of the university pole in the city of Ouarzazate in its first part, related to the construction and equipping of the Higher School of Technology at an estimated cost of 70 million dirhams. In the same context, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch visited the Specialized Institute of Hotel and Tourism Applied Technology in Ouarzazate.
It is worth mentioning that Aziz Akhannouch's visit to the Draa-Tafilalet region, at the head of a ministerial delegation, comes in line with the directives of His Majesty the King and the contents of the government program, which aims to consolidate regionalization as a development option and contribute to reducing regional and social disparities. It also falls within the framework of the government's policy aimed at strengthening the policy of proximity with citizens, as one of the pillars of the development orientation of our country, which is based on the effective contribution of regions and territorial communities to the creation of integrated development.
