Head of Government receives International Monetary Fund Managing Director

The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, received, on Monday 19 June 2023 in Rabat, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund  (IMF), who is on an official visit to Morocco as part of the ongoing preparations for the organization of the annual general meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, which are scheduled to be hosted in Marrakech next October, as well as to strengthen the existing partnership between the Kingdom and the International Monetary Fund. 
After reviewing the latest preparations of the Kingdom to host the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, the Head of Government expressed Morocco's pride in being chosen to host a global meeting at the level of the General Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, which consecrates the special attention given by international financial institutions to the Kingdom of Morocco, and constitutes an occasion to extend the important strides made by our country in various development fields under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, as well as to introduce the advantages of Moroccan civilization and culture, stressing that by hosting this important date, Morocco represents the entire African continent.
During this meeting, the two sides discussed the prospects of enhancing cooperation between the Kingdom and the International Monetary Fund and its focus on the Kingdom's development priorities, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, may God assist him, where the Head of Government reviewed the major directions of government work during the coming period, which mainly serve to achieve economic take-off, universal social coverage, tax reform, public sector reform, as well as financial sector reform.
For her part, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) stressed that Morocco is a role model in managing the post-Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to targeted and time-bound government initiatives, noting that Morocco, which enjoys a dynamic economy, has become an example in the field of social construction and development.

 

During this meeting, the Head of Government recalled the main pillars of the government's economic and social policies and its commitment to continue working to improve the various macroeconomic indicators and optimize the Kingdom's major development strategies in various fields. This is enshrined in particular by the main priorities of the 2023 Finance Law, which aims to strengthen the foundations of the social state called for by His Majesty the King, may God assist him, in supporting investment, to address the problem of water resources management, and to provide the necessary capabilities to ensure the sustainability of reforms.
The two sides also noted the momentum of bilateral consultations on the occasion of the numerous visits of IMF officials to Morocco, both within the framework of technical support and on the sidelines of the preparations for the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Morocco.
Both the Head of Government and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund praised the quality of the existing cooperation relations between the Kingdom and the International Finance Corporation, which have been strengthened over recent years.
