The Head of Government receives a delegation of members of the US Congress from the Democratic Party
The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, received, on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in Rabat, a delegation of members of the US Congress from the Democratic Party, led by Senator Adriano Espaillat, who is on a working visit to Morocco within the framework of strengthening the relations of friendship and fruitful cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the components of the American legislative institution.
During this meeting, the Head of Government reiterated the Kingdom's appreciation for the position of the United States of America towards the national issue, as the United States recognized during December 2020 the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over the Moroccan Sahara and decided to open a consulate in the city of Dakhla, a position confirmed by the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, Ms. Wendy Sherman, during her visit to Morocco in March 2022, where she expressed her country's support for the autonomy plan, as a serious, credible and realistic solution.
The Head of Government also praised the fruitful partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States Millennium Challenge Corporation Foundation, as evidenced by the success of the MCA-Morocco program in its First and Second Charters, which are in line with the government's development priorities under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him.
The Head of Government and members of the US congressional delegation reviewed a set of other cooperation programs covering many vital areas and ways to expand them, stressing the common desire to strengthen this dynamic with the contribution of the living forces in the two countries.
This meeting was an opportunity to take stock of the remarkable dynamism witnessed in recent years by the long-standing friendly relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, which have been established since the signing of the Treaty of Friendship between the two countries in 1787. Since 2012, the two partner countries have had a strategic partnership based on regular and diversified political dialogue, and economic relations framed by the Moroccan American Free Trade Agreement, as well as a series of cooperation agreements and programs in various cultural, scientific, and security fields.
