The Head of Government chaired the sixth meeting of the Interministerial Commission responsible for the emergency program for the reconstruction and general upgrading of the areas affected by the Al Haouz earthquake
- Launch of the distribution of the first installment of financial aid for the reconstruction of partially or completely collapsed houses starting from November 1st ;
- Families concerned are invited to submit their reconstruction authorization documents to local authorities starting from November 1st ;
- The distribution of barley to affected farmers will commence on October 25th.
The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, presided over the sixth meeting of the Interministerial Commission on October 18, 2023, in Rabat. During this meeting, the progress of the implementation of this program was discussed in accordance with the Royal Instructions.
The commission discussed the mechanisms for providing financial support for the reconstruction of houses that have collapsed either partially or completely, as per the lists that have been established. This support will be provided in four installments starting from November 1st. From this date, the first installment of 20,000 dirhams will be disbursed for the reconstruction of these houses. Families are also invited to submit their reconstruction authorization documents to local authorities they belong to starting from November 1st, and they will receive technical support through the provision of model architectural plans that take into consideration the specificities and standards of the region.
Additionally, the meeting featured a presentation on the progress of the disbursement of the first installment of financial aid to affected families, which amounts to 2,500 dirhams per month for a period of one year, benefiting families whose houses have been completely or partially collapsed. The Commission also reviewed the status of emergency measures related to housing, including tents and equipment, and noted that local authorities are providing new tents to families in need.
Regarding the agricultural sector, the distribution of barley to affected farmers will start on October 25th. An agreement will also be signed with the National Association of Sheep and Goat Breeders (ANOC) to rebuild the national herd. Moreover, work to rehabilitate hydroagricultural equipment in small and medium-sized irrigated areas will commence.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the progress of urban and technical studies initiated for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools, local health centers, mosques, zzawiyas, mausoleums, and the reinforcement of historical monuments. Additionally, the progress of road clearance operations and the status of recently opened rural roads were examined.
The Head of Government commended the efforts of the relevant government departments responsible for the successful implementation of the reconstruction program for the provinces affected by the earthquake. He emphasized that the Kingdom's resilience and its success in managing this crisis under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, may God assist him, received international praise during the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, demonstrating Marrakech's and Morocco's overall ability to recover quickly and respond to various crises.
