The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, received, on Monday, March 25, 2024 in Rabat, a delegation of members of the American Congress composed of six senators representing the Republican and Democratic parties. The delegation is on a working visit to the Kingdom, as part of examining ways to strengthen the strategic relations between Morocco and the United States of America, under the leadership of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, and the American President Joe Biden.

During this meeting, in the presence, on the Moroccan side, of the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and the Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Evaluation of public policies, and on the American side, the Ambassador of the United States to Morocco, the two parties highlighted the various aspects of the multi-sectoral bilateral cooperation, expressing their satisfaction with the positive evolution of the volume of trade, which has increased from 43.4 billion dirhams in 2021 to 68.9 billion dirhams currently. The two parties also emphasized Morocco's ability to serve as a platform for American investments in the African continent, within a mutually beneficial partnership.

The Head of Government assured, during this audience, that the bilateral relations between Rabat and Washington are based on close coordination on a range of regional and international issues, highlighting Morocco's leadership and its contribution to the consolidation of stability in the North Africa and Middle East region.

The Head of Government also expressed the Kingdom of Morocco's appreciation for the position of the United States of America, which recognized in late 2020 Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara and expressed support for the autonomy plan as a serious, realistic, and credible solution.

These discussions also highlighted the centuries-old historical relations between the two countries, since the signing of the 1787 Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Morocco and America, which is the oldest treaty signed by the United States with a third country.
