This further strengthens the Kingdom's regional leadership position in the automotive industry and energy transition, in line with the Strategic and Enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him.
The agreement is signed by the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Abdelouafi LAFTIT, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Ms. Nadia FETTAH, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Mr. Nizar BARAKA, the Minister of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy, Ms. Fatim Ezzahra EL MANSOURI, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, Mr. Younes SEKKOURI, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Ryad MEZZOUR, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Ms. Leila BENALI, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mr. Mohcine JAZOULI, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of the Budget, Mr. Faouzi LEKJAA, and the President of Gotion High Tech Group, Mr. Zhen LI; in the presence of the General Director of AMDIE, Mr. Ali SEDDIKI.
For this first gigafactory, the Moroccan government has decided to trust the Sino-European actor GOTION High-Tech, a global leader in the electric battery sector, with one of its major shareholders being the German group VOLKSWAGEN, to develop an integrated project for the production of electric vehicle batteries with a capacity of 20 GWh, for an amount of 12.8 billion dirhams, which will create 17,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs, including 2,300 highly skilled jobs.
This investment corresponds to the first phase of the group's industrial development activities in Morocco, which plans to eventually develop a capacity of 100 GWh for a total investment amount of 65 billion dirhams.
GOTION High-Tech has made major investments in Europe, the United States, and Asia, with nearly 12 Gigafactories launched in the past two years to meet the significant global demand in the electric mobility sector. The choice of the Kingdom of Morocco for the establishment of its new Gigafactory demonstrates its confidence in Morocco as a preferred investment destination, particularly in job-creating industrial ecosystems with added value, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.
Thus, over the past twenty-five years, Morocco has become a reference hub in the complex fields of automotive and aerospace industries, allowing for increasingly integrated participation in international value chains.
Today, with the enlightened vision of the Sovereign and its inherent strengths, the Kingdom of Morocco is strengthening its positioning in high-value-added sectors such as electric mobility, in order to consolidate its achievements, support the transition of its automotive ecosystem towards electric vehicles, and enhance wealth creation for the benefit of its citizens.
