The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, held talks on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in Rabat with Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). These discussions highlighted the ongoing and fruitful cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and this international organization.
During the talks, the conclusion of the second Country Programme between Morocco and the OECD was announced. This programme focuses on enhancing support, partnership, and cooperation in implementing a series of structural reforms in public governance, the economy and investment, social integration, and territorial development, by adopting more best practices from the organization.
The Head of Government, during this meeting, emphasized the major socio-economic transformations that Morocco is experiencing under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him. These transformations have enabled Morocco to emerge as a regional economic power through the adoption of ambitious strategies in many promising sectors, such as renewable energies, green hydrogen, the automotive industry, and aeronautics.
The Head of Government also praised the positive findings of the first economic study conducted by the OECD on Morocco, which analyzed the Kingdom's economic situation. Mr. Mathias Cormann reviewed the main points of this study during the talks. On this occasion, both parties expressed their desire to continue the momentum of bilateral partnership and move forward toward new and promising prospects for cooperation.
The second Country Programme represents a new milestone in strengthening constructive cooperation between Morocco and the OECD. Morocco was the first country in the North Africa and Middle East region, and among the first four countries globally, to sign a memorandum of understanding for a Country Programme with the OECD.
It is worth noting that the first phase of the Country Programme (2015–2018) supported Morocco’s major reforms in several economic and social sectors, as well as in governance.
