The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, chaired a meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Rabat, dedicated to monitoring the implementation of the health system promotion project, in line with the High Royal Will.
This meeting provided an opportunity to track the steps taken toward implementing the pillars of the radical reform of the national health system, which include: establishing governance bodies, continuing infrastructure development, digitizing the sector, and increasing the number of healthcare professionals.
During this meeting, the Head of Government affirmed that the government remains fully committed to improving healthcare services by deploying the necessary material and human resources required for the royal initiative related to social protection. He emphasized that the main objective is to ensure quality public healthcare services that meet the expectations and aspirations of Moroccans while strengthening the foundations of the social state as envisioned by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.
The Head of Government called for diligence and efficiency to complete all medical treatment-related projects ahead of schedule and to take the necessary measures to ensure proper reception of patients and facilitate their access to medical services in public health establishments.
The meeting also reviewed the progress made in implementing good governance within the sector, particularly through the establishment of the High Authority for Health, the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products, and the Moroccan Agency for Blood and its Derivatives. These institutions aim to enhance the mechanisms for regulating and overseeing the actions of healthcare operators while improving hospital governance and territorial planning of healthcare services.

Additionally, updates were provided on the progress of construction, expansion, and rehabilitation projects for six university hospital centers and 79 provincial and regional hospitals, which will increase the healthcare system's capacity by 11,338 additional beds.
The meeting also assessed the advancement of the digitalization of the national health system through the development of an integrated IT system for collecting and processing all essential data. This project will lead to the signing of a partnership agreement between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the National Social Security Fund to ensure financial convergence and efficiency in implementing this IT system.
Regarding the enhancement of human resources, the meeting focused on implementing the program to increase the number of healthcare professionals by 2030. Significant progress has been made in fulfilling the commitments outlined in the framework agreement signed in July 2022, which aims to address the current shortage of healthcare personnel and reform the training system.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the progress in establishing medical and pharmacy faculties in Guelmim, Errachidia, and Beni-Mellal, as well as the ongoing reforms in the training curriculum for healthcare professionals.
