The Head of Government Chairs the First Board of Directors Meeting of the National Social Assistance Agency

The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, chaired the inaugural meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Social Assistance Agency (ANSS) on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in Rabat. The ANSS was established in accordance with the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, to develop and implement social assistance policies, notably the direct social assistance program launched at the end of 2023.
This first meeting of the Board of Directors provided an opportunity to discuss the strategic issues related to the establishment of the ANSS and to approve its action plan and provisional budget for the year 2025. The Board also approved the organizational structure and specific regulations for the ANSS's human resources.
In line with the Royal High Directives, the direct social assistance program, aimed at vulnerable and precarious families, seeks to improve the living standards of the beneficiaries, reduce poverty, and strengthen social development while fully adhering to the principles of transparency, equity, solidarity, and good governance.
Launched as part of the government’s accelerated rollout of the Unified Social Registry, the direct social assistance program benefits nearly 4 million households, including 5.4 million children and 1.2 million elderly people over the age of 60. According to budgetary forecasts, the program is expected to mobilize an estimated budget of 25 billion dirhams for the year 2024.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family Affairs, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of the Budget, the High Commissioner for Planning, the Director General of the National Social Assistance Agency, and the Director General of the Deposit and Management Fund Group.
