The Head of Government chairs the work of the steering committee for the implementation of social protection workshops
The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, chaired the work of the steering committee for the implementation of social protection workshops, on Friday, February 18, 2022, in the presence of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mrs. Nadia Fettah, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mr. Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mr. Mohamed Sadiki, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, Ms. Fatim- Zahra Ammor, Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mr. Mohamed Abdeljalil, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the budget, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, and the meeting was also attended by the Director General of the National Social Security Fund, Mr. Hassan Boubrik.
This meeting comes within the framework of continuing to track the implementation of social protection workshops and to determine the progress of its work, especially in the part related to universal health coverage.
In a speech during the meeting, the Head of Government recalled the high royal instructions contained in the royal speech on the occasion of the opening of the legislative year in October 2020, where His Majesty King Mohammed VI called for universal health coverage for all Moroccans by the end of 2022, and for the government to engage in the implementation of this project according to the specified timetable.
The Head of Government instructed the ministers and the Director of the National Social Security Fund to carry out awareness campaigns to ensure the acceleration of citizens' involvement in these royal workshops, as this has a positive impact on protecting the health of citizens and ensuring their access to the right to treatment.
In his speech, The Head of Government also praised the great work that has been done so far, as the government was keen to speed up the completion of the legal arsenal to implement the royal workshops related to social protection.
He pointed out that 14 decrees were approved, which opened the door to benefit from health coverage for 11 million unpaid workers and their associated rights, who will benefit from basic compulsory insurance for illness, including the expenses of medicine, hospitalization, and treatment. Four other new decrees are currently being finalized, covering in particular artists, journalists, and people working in transport and tourism.
The meeting was an opportunity to present the workshops related to social protection workshops and to study ways to develop them, such as the extension of health coverage to all Moroccans, the governance of the social protection system, and the rehabilitation of social welfare institutions.
It is worth mentioning that this meeting is the second of its kind held by the steering committee to implement social protection workshops since the inauguration of the current government.
