The Head of Government Chairs the First Board of Directors Meeting of the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products
The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, chaired the first Board of Directors meeting of the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in Rabat. This agency was established as part of the initiative to enhance the healthcare system, which enjoys the High Solicitude of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, and in accordance with the provisions of Framework Law 06.22 on the national healthcare system.
This inaugural Board of Directors meeting provided an opportunity to review the strategic aspects related to the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products, created under Law 10.22. The meeting also approved the agency’s action plan and provisional budget for the 2025 fiscal year, as well as its organizational structure and staff regulations.
The Head of Government emphasized the vital role of the pharmaceutical and health products sector as a key lever in reinforcing the country’s sovereignty in the field of medicines, in line with the High Royal Directives. He highlighted that the issue of medicines goes beyond the healthcare dimension, having both material and social impacts by contributing to equitable access to medicines for all segments of society.
The mission of the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products primarily includes ensuring the availability, accessibility, quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines and health products, as well as continuously monitoring drug prices. It also involves precautionary measures, vigilance, and risk analysis related to medicines and health products, in coordination with relevant sectors. Additionally, the agency promotes the use of generic and biosimilar medicines to control costs and improve economic efficiency.
