The Head of Government receives the Director-General of the International Labour Organization.

The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, received on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 in Rabat, Mr. Gilbert Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organization, who is making his first visit to the Kingdom since his appointment to the leadership of this UN organization, in the presence of Mr. Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills.
This meeting is part of the common desire to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and the International Labour Organization, marked in recent years by a spirit of sustainability and coordination.
During this meeting, the Head of Government reviewed the dynamics of the reforms taking place in our country under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God preserve him, particularly in the areas of social protection, implementation of structuring projects, promotion of productive employment and creation of decent job opportunities.
The Head of Government emphasized that over the past two years, Morocco has been able to institutionalize social dialogue and make it a mechanism for generating gains and reforms. He noted that the government, alongside trade unions and professional organizations and associations of workers, recently signed the agreement of the April 2024 session, which is of great importance in terms of improving the incomes of civil servants and employees and initiating several reforms and legislation related to work, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and international legislation in this field and within a participatory approach with social and economic partners.
For his part, Mr. Gilbert Houngbo affirmed that the priorities of the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco coincide with those established by the International Labour Organization, stating that this meeting was an opportunity to become acquainted with the major projects initiated by the government over the past 30 months and to discuss the government's future projects, such as the reform of pension funds and the updating of labour legislation.
The Director-General of the ILO also highlighted the importance that the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco attaches to the continuation of the implementation of social state projects, calling on Morocco to join the global coalition for social justice, as well as the Secretary-General's Initiative of the United Nations to support the "Global Accelerator for Employment and Social Protection for Just Transitions".
The two parties also discussed the United Nations' sustainable development goals related to the creation of decent job opportunities, guaranteeing health and safety, combating violence and discrimination in the workplace, as well as evaluating the implementation of international standards adopted by the Kingdom.
