The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, held talks on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in Rabat, with Mr. Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group. The meeting was attended by Ms. Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance. During these discussions, the profound transformation Morocco has undergone under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, was highlighted. This transformation has positioned the Kingdom among the world’s emerging countries and as one of the most stable and prosperous nations on the African continent.
At the start of the discussions, the Head of Government praised the exceptional partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the African Development Bank Group, urging the Bank to strengthen its support and assistance operations to sustain the scope of major reforms and structural projects being implemented across various sectors under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, may God assist him.
For his part, Mr. Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the support provided to AfDB, particularly for organizing the Africa Investment Forum being held in Rabat, which has seen significant participation. He noted that Morocco is the largest beneficiary of AfDB investments, with a financial portfolio of $3.6 billion. This year alone, the Bank plans to support projects worth $1.5 billion.
The President of the African Development Bank Group also expressed the Bank’s willingness to support Morocco's preparations for the 2030 World Cup by financing several projects, particularly those related to upgrading rail and airport infrastructure.
Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the performance of the African Development Bank Group's financial portfolio in Morocco, as assessed through the evaluation of various projects. This success was noted despite the challenging international context and successive external crises. Emphasis was placed on the Moroccan government’s efforts and its strong commitment to fulfilling its obligations.
It should be noted that Morocco and the African Development Bank Group have enjoyed a privileged partnership since 1970, through which more than €15 billion has been mobilized to finance approximately 150 projects in the Kingdom.
