The Head of Government oversees the signing of a framework agreement to implement a program to increase the number of health professionals by 2030

  • Increase the total number of health workers from 68,000 in 2022 to over 90,000 by 2025. 
  • Reach the threshold of 24 health professionals per 10,000 inhabitants by 2025 and 45 by 2030 (compared to 17.4 per 10,000 inhabitants currently).
  • Allocate a financial envelope of more than 3 Billion dirhams for the implementation of the program.
  • Creation of 3 faculties of medicine and pharmacy and 3 university hospitals in Errachidia, Beni Mellal and Guelmim.

The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, supervised, Monday, July 25, 2022, the signing ceremony of a framework agreement on the implementation of a program to increase the number of health professionals by 2030. This framework agreement aims to reduce the current shortage of human resources for health and to reform the training system.
The framework agreement was signed by Mr. Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mr. Abdellatif Miraoui, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, and Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of the budget.

This program is part of the embodiment of the high attention paid by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, to the issues of health and rehabilitation of the human element of the sector, which constitute a pivotal pillar of the development project of our country, and in the successful implementation of the royal project of universal social protection for all Moroccans,  and in the implementation of the requirements of Framework Law No. 09.21 on Social Protection.
This program aims to increase the number of health professionals from 17.4 per 10,000 inhabitants enrolled in 2021 to 24 by 2025 and then to 45 by 2030, which requires doubling the number of graduates from faculties of medicine, pharmacy and dentistry, and the number of graduates from higher institutes of nursing professions and health technologies three times by 2025,  In addition to implementing a new basic training engineering in the faculties of medicine, pharmacy and dentistry, and creating 3 faculties of medicine and pharmacy and 3 hospital centers. University of Errachidia, Beni Mellal and Guelmim.
The cost of implementing this program amounts to more than 3 Billion dirhams, in addition to the cost of creating 3 new university hospitals.
In his speech at the signing ceremony of the framework agreement, The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz  Akhannouch recalled the great attention paid by HM the King to health and professionals in the sector, which is reflected in His Majesty's directives to pay attention to this sector, which is one of the most important axes for strengthening the social pillars of the State. 

 


He stressed that the implementation of the royal workshops, which are represented in the universalization of social protection to all Moroccans, requires a real rehabilitation of the national health system and an increase in the number of professionals in the sector, to meet the expectations of citizens.
It is worth mentioning that the Government, in order to keep pace with the major social protection workshops, has developed a clear strategy for reforming the health system on the basis of a set of guidelines, including human resources development and rehabilitation of health provision for primary care institutions and hospitals,  regional, provincial, and academic.
